Hi, I’m Devanand, a creative practitioner with a strong interest in filmmaking and photography. My work focuses on visual storytelling, particularly in short-form films and still imagery. I enjoy working across different stages of the creative process, from concept development to shooting and editing. This portfolio presents a selection of my work and creative journey so far.
I began my creative journey with photography, which helped me develop an eye for composition, light, and visual detail. Over time, this interest naturally expanded into filmmaking, where I became more involved in telling stories through moving images. During my college years, I actively worked on short films, often taking on multiple roles such as Director of Photography, editor, and director, which gave me a strong understanding of the overall filmmaking process.
Some of my academic and independent projects have been recognised in college-level competitions. I was part of a team that won second prize in a short film competition, and one of my independently made short films received a special mention at a film competition. These experiences encouraged me to continue working in short-form filmmaking and to take creative challenges seriously while working within constraints.
I am currently a postgraduate student at the University of Birmingham and am based in the UK. Alongside my studies, I am actively involved in the Filmmaking Society, where we collaborate on short film projects, and I am also part of the Photography Society committee. As part of this role, I contribute to photography-related activities and assist with social media content and creative coordination within the postgraduate community.
