This section showcases a selection of short films and one-minute videos I have been involved in, where I contributed in major roles such as writing, directing, cinematography, and editing. For more of my video edits and creative work, you can also check out my Instagram: @devanandtv
Once Upon a Time in..Kandam is a short, playful video created spontaneously at home with my brother and cousin performing simple roles while I handled filming and direction. I had a rough plan for the scenes and guided the performers on the spot, focusing on visual style, framing, and comic timing rather than a structured narrative. Drawing inspiration from Western and cowboy aesthetics, I shot and edited the project independently, experimenting with rhythm, character presentation, and minimal equipment. While created for fun, the project was a valuable learning experience in directing performance, improvising with limited resources, and translating spontaneous ideas into a finished visual piece, reflecting my interest in exploring genre and collaborative storytelling in short-form video.
Mobius is a short film I wrote, directed, and edited, exploring the concept of being trapped in a temporal loop. The story follows a man alone at home who experiences repeated encounters with himself across different moments in time, ultimately unable to escape the cycle. I led the project’s creative vision, including scripting, direction, and post-production, while camera work was handled collaboratively with a team member. This project allowed me to experiment with narrative structure, pacing, and visual storytelling in a controlled environment, highlighting my skills in short-form filmmaking and collaborative production.
Console is a one-minute short film created as a collaborative team project and developed around a social awareness theme. The film focuses on suicide prevention and highlights the importance of listening and communication, emphasising how meaningful conversation can play a crucial role in emotional support. I worked as the Director of Photography and editor for the project, shaping the visual tone and pacing to suit the one-minute format, and also designed the promotional poster. The film was submitted to a short film competition, where it received a special mention, encouraging us to further explore socially relevant storytelling within tight creative constraints.
Learning Cinema is a one-minute, self-initiated video created as an exercise in short-form visual storytelling. The piece reflects my process of learning cinema through close observation of films, framing, and visual composition. Working independently, I handled all aspects of the project, including performance, camera setup, and editing, while experimenting with static shots and movement within the frame. The project helped me understand how ideas and mood can be communicated clearly within a strict time limit.
Vintage is a short video created to explore a nostalgic atmosphere through simple, carefully composed visuals. Using everyday objects such as a vintage radio and an old chair, I focused on lighting, framing, and timing to evoke a sense of memory and timelessness. I handled the concept, shooting, and editing independently, experimenting with visual storytelling and mood in a minimalistic setup. This project reflects my interest in capturing emotion and narrative through concise, aesthetically-driven short-form videos.
